Dear Brothers and Sisters -
Oh, there is so much to be shared with you all! The problem is, where to start! First I have to say that the summer was incredible! God is doing so many incredible things in people's lives, and I feel blessed that He allows me to be apart of that process. Paris - When I arrived in France, I flew into Paris, and decided to stay there for a few days before leaving for Strasbourg. Roland and Rose, the missionaries there received me into their home, and we were able to get some work done on some of the presentations Roland has been working on. (One of the english presentations - www.egliseduchrist-deodat.com/english/multimedia.shtml) After finishing in Strasbourg, I returned to Paris for a week and we continued to work on the presentations. I was able to spend 2 Sundays in total with the congregation. It was such an encouragement to see the brothers and sisters in Paris, renew our relationships, and be encouraged by one another. Strasbourg - After leaving Paris I went directly to Strasbourg. Tammy, the preacher's wife, met me at the train station. It felt so good to be home! The first week in Strasbourg was our annual campaign. We had a group from Harding come down and help us distribute invitations to study the Bible into mailboxes, and then we had a conference two evenings. One of the women who used to come to church years ago, Nicole, decided to come to the conference, and now has started attending church again. We had a few other visitors and over all it went over very well! During my time in Strasbourg I was able to spend quite a bit of time catching up with the members of the church, meeting the new members, and spending time with the youth group. Since I left France one man, Didia, has become a members of the Lord's body! Please keep him in your prayers, as Satan has been tempting him with many things, most of which he struggled with when he was not a christian. Also, a brother, Frederic, who had left the church for awhile, has come back to the Body and is growing stronger and stronger. Please keep him in your prayers as well. He is a man of much zeal. Please pray that that zeal will be channeled with by love and grace. We also have another addition to the Strasbourg congregation : Caleb Adjei, the new born son of Alex and Mavis. It's amazing to see new life, and God's hand in this family's life. Please keep them in your prayers as this is their first baby, and I'm sure new parents alway have their struggles. Pray that God gives them wisdom and patience as their rase their child in the Lord. As part of the work that I was doing in Strasbourg, I re-vampted the web page for the congregation (www.egliseduchrist-strasbourg.com/english/home.html). We were able to get things up to date, as well as train Gayle, a member of the church, to be able to update the page.
Finally, ever Wednesday the youth group (8-13 years old) would get together and spend time in the study of the scriptures as well as an activity that we all can do and have fun doing at the same time. When I left Strasbourg there were only 3 in the group (the two missionaries' children, and one other boy from their school). Now we have two more girls who come regularly, with prayers that the group will continue to grow. The children of today are the church of tomorrow and we much continue to raise them up to know and follow God, so that when it is their turn to lead, they will be ready to take their place. Please keep all of these kids, and those who are mentoring them, in your prayers. Scotland - While I was in Europe I decided to take the opportunity to visit with a friend in England and then to see the work God is doing in Scotland. I took two days to go to Cambridge to visit with Cindy, a girl who had been my English-Bible student for three years. During the two days that we were together (her boyfriend Maxim was with us as well), we had many good conversations. One night at dinner Maxim started to ask me questions about the church, christianity, and the way I feel about other religions. I was able to explain to Him how there is a need within each one of us to know God, and to be a part with Him. Turns out, Maxim grew up in a "christian" home, but his family had fallen away from the faith, and thus, he had never cared much for having a faith of his own. The fact, however, that he was interested in spiritual things, gives me a hope that he, at some point in time will be ready to sit down and study to develop a faith of his own. Please pray for this with me! Taking a quick flight up to Edinburg, I met with two of my classmates, Robin and Chrissy Vick, and joined them for a few days as they visited congregations and church members throughout the country. They are planning on going back to Scotland (where Robin is originally from) to work with the churches there. It was interesting to get a feel for the work that is going on just a few hundred miles from France, and be surprised at the differences in their struggles from the French's struggles. I do not know what the future holds as to where I will be working after I am finished at school, but I am glad to have a better idea as to what the work is like in other parts of Europe, and to know the teams that will be going there a bit more.
God bless you all! - Pamela D.
