Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ -
The Lord has been doing amazing things this past month. Our first term ended on the 12th and on the 13th I was able to join a group of Sunset students and a teacher and go to Coffeyville, Kansas and help with their relief effort after floods had hit their area in July.
Here is a picture of the group that travelled from Lubbock to Coffeyville. Early Saturday morning we all piled into a few cars and after 11 hours of driving, arrived in the sweet little town. We were greeted by Clint and Sarah, the preacher and his wife who then took us all out to dinner. At dinner we met some of the members of the church and then were taken to the houses where we were going to stay. Rebecca, a Sunset student, and myself were blessed to stay with Mrs. Betty, the church secretary.
Sunset we were introduced to the church and after worship we were able to go to the east side of town that was hit by the flood. The devastation was horrendous. Not only was their a flood, but hundreds of gallons of oil leaked into the water rendering 300 homes unlivable again. 700 total homes were hit by the flood, and the ones that can not be remodeled have been bought by the oil company and will be demolished.
I can not image what it would be like to loose every physical thing I had in one clean swoop. So, we spent Monday through Wednesday, from morning till night knocking on the people's doors who had come to the church already for assistance. We not only offered them boxes of food, seeing that some of them had found a friend's house to live at, or had bought another home in town and had very little, but we also prayed with many of them, and offered to study the Word with them. It was amazing to watch their eyes when we talked about Jesus and the hope He has.
All together we were able to set up over a dozen Bible studies and were able to talk with hundreds of people, telling them not only of the church and that we are there for them when they need us, but of the wonderful riches that Jesus has to offer in a spiritual way. These people lost all they had physically, but Lord willing, through this catastrophe, the name of the Lord will be glorified, and they will come to know His awesome love and grace in their lives.
Thank you all again so very much for the support that you have provide for me to be here, learning these things, so that I will be able to pass them along to others. Please continue to pray for me in this process, as I continue to pray for you all.
God bless – Pamela D.
