Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ- How the months roll by and it is already 2007. It is incredible how time flies and the things that have happened. I want to share with you all a little about what the month of December brought, as well as update you at to what is going to be happening in Strasbourg, as well as my personal ministry in the upcoming months. The month of December The first two weeks of December went by must like November. Mondays we worked with the children at the Elementary school, in their computer class. Tuesdays we took the opportunity to visit and study with Philip, a regular visitor at church. Wednesday through Saturday I had English Bible classes with my three students, French classes, as well as worked on the various secretarial projects that I am in charge of. (The web page, transcribing, and correspondence course recreation.) During one of my English Bible classes I had to opportunity to meet a group of my students friends. We talked and joked and got to know each other a bit. One of the girls who was there asked me what I do in Strasbourg and I after explaining that I work with a church, and the conversation was almost teetering towards religion, she changed the subject. What I have found is that most of the people I talk to are very nice, polite, and interesting. But they have no desire to talk about religion, or God in their personal lives. On the other hand, during one of my french classes, I met a girl who is German and after class I told her what I do. She wanted to know more, saying that she has always been interested in religious things. It is encouraging to find those who do want to know, and I pray for those who do not that one day their hearts will change and they will want to find God for themselves.
Around mid-December I was able to go to America to celebrate my dad's 50th birthday as well as Christmas at home. It had been three years since I had seen my family for the holidays and felt like it was time that I give some attention to them. During my stay in America I was able to visit with a group of college students at Colby Community for an International Student Club Christmas Party. (My sister is involved with the club and invited me to go along). There I met a girl who is very interested in God and His word. We were able to have an impromptu Bible study, and got each others email address, and have been emailing over the past two weeks. While downtown I also ran into my French teacher from High School. Her best friend lives here in Strasbourg and she informed me that her friend is looking for a church to attend. I gave her all my contact information in hopes that her friend will be interested in attending our serves and building relationships with us. (It is amazing how small the world is.)
I also had a chance to spend time with my family. I have learned how very important it is to invest yourself in people, and how when one has good relationships with their family those around them see that in their lives. I am starting to understand why Elders are required to have God-fearing children, and be able to manage their households well. Families, in a lot of ways, are building blocks for the society. And people see if you have good relationships with your family members or bad ones. As a christian, and even more as a missionary, I am judge according to the relationships I already have. I want to be sure that I have invested everything I have into every relationship that I have the opportunity to be a part of. Also being away from Strasbourg, allowed me an opportunity to relax, refocus and regenerate. I was able to let my body rest as well as my mind. Coming back to Strasbourg, to my work, I feel refreshed, and able to start not only with new physical energy, but with fresh ideas, and new motivation. Looking Towards the Future As most of you know I have decided to stay in Strasbourg until the end of May, beginning of June to continue the work that I am doing, and hand what work I am doing over to the next team that will be arriving at that time. I recently received the new that the preacher in Paris has raised half of the support I am going to need to, Lord willing, be a part of a mission trip to Mauritius Island for the month of July. (Mauritius Island is a small island off the cost of Madagascar) There I will be participating in a Bible Bowl, helping the church in anyway I can, as well as education the preacher there as to how to up keep his web page, which I have already built. ( www.egliseduchrist-mauritius-island.com ) After the trip to Mauritius I am still planning on, if the Lord wills, going to Sunset International Bible Institute to receive more biblical training, where I will be for two to three years. Thank you all so much for all that you do for me, one a daily basis, with your prayers, which the Lord is answer in the work here, and with your financial contributions. If it were not for you, I would not be able to live here and do the work that I am doing. God bless you all, Pamela D. Following is the schedule of the next few months as well as a list of the expenses I will occur. January-May - Living in Strasbourg - $1,300 / month ($850/month if supporters continue) June 1st - 8th - Strasbourg Campaign June - Working in Paris w/ preacher and his wife - $750 (nothing yet promised) June 28-July 23rd - Mission Trip to Mauritius Island - $1,045 plane ticket ($458 given) End of July - Fly back to America and move to Lubbock - $ ??? While I was in the States I was able to complete and send out 500 support letters to various congregations. I am praying that the Lord provides the financial support I need for the up coming months through this avenue. Thank you so much for your prayers. www.aimfrance.wtcsites.com |
