August 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ -

What a busy month this has been, getting back to America, getting back to school, meeting a new AIM class and starting to work with them, and generally getting adjusted to life again.

With one year left at Sunset I have many things pray about and many things to decide. I will, Lord willing, be graduating in May of this year with a Bachelors Degree in Bible. This is the first year that Sunset has been able to offer a Bachelors for their program, and we are all extremely excited that they have received the authority to do this. For more details, you can read about it on the SIBI web page (www.sibi.cc).

Also with a year left, I have to start thinking about what the future holds and where I will be going at the end of the year. I have been praying a lot about this and asking God to open doors for me, and take me to where He would like me to serve. There are a few doors that are opening, and I would just ask that you all please join with me in prayer as I search for the best place for me to be, where God can use my talents that He's given me to bring others to Him.

Most of the places I am looking at at the moment are in Europe, which means I would be returning a field that is in need of much plowing and workers who are willing to move there and stay there for the long hall. Europe is also a place that is rather expensive to live and with the Euro doing so well right now, it makes it harder and harder to find adequate support to live and work there. Please pray about this for me as well. When I look at Europe, I see the need to take the gospel to those people. Not many people see that with the Europeans. And because I already have connections there, coming back into the work will be easier. I am nervous however about the money. I know that God can provide, and that He will provide for me where I need to be. However, Him providing is based on other people being willing to be used by Him. So I ask that you pray that I can find those who are willing to support me in the long run, and if you are considering supporting me after I am finished at school and return to the mission field, I ask that you pray hard about that decision.

In welcoming a new year, we also welcomed a new AIM class. This new class is made up of 47 young people from all over the world. (14 states and 3 foreign countries). Personally, I have the blessing of being able to work closely with six students from all over the nation. (back: Pamela McAdams (me), Jessica Rusher (Oklahoma), Rachel and Brent McFarland (other AIM assistants), Zach Montandon (Texas), Lora Bassett (Californa), Brandon Tribbett (Colorado), James Walker (Kansas), bottom: Sarah Hall (California)). Each Sunday we leave Lubbock at 8am and travel to Amherst, Texas where we spend time with the congregation there and use our time to helping them in any way we can.

One weekend this past month, we were able to go out for the entire weekend and aid the church by painting four of their classrooms. We all split up and stay at different members of the congregation's homes and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and hopefully were an encouragement to the members of the church. The AIMers are being trained to be men and women of service, and as we (the assistants) go with them, we do our best to help aid them, push them, and stretch them as they grow. Ironically, as we are serving with them, we too find ourselves, many times, growing along side them and thanking God for the opportunities to share our faith with not only them, but the people we are ministering to together.

Classes have also started this term and have been exceedingly wonderful! I will spend more time talking about each class in detail in my next newsletter, but I wanted to share with you the names of my courses. Ray Young has been teaching James, and I & II Peter, Gibby Gilbert has Youth and Family Ministry, and Victor Elison is taking the place of Gerald Paden while he's been recovering from being sick with Sacrificial Systems. If any of you is interested in learning more about ministering to young people, and helping teenagers become healthy, mature christians, I would suggest "Family-Based Youth Ministry" by Mark Devries. This is one of our assigned readings, but has been a joy to read through. Devries brings many points to the table when addressing how we have traditionally done youth ministry, and some new ideas for how we can improve on our efforts.

I pray that each of you are doing well, and that God continues to grow you all in your faith as He is doing to me, and to those around me. Please continue to pray for me and the work I am doing here, and the time I am spending studying so that I can go and bring the Gospel to others. Thank you all for what you do! I praise the Lord for you all!

God Bless! - Pamela D. McAdams
