April 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters -

I want to start this months news letter by asking you all to spend me your contact information as soon as possible. I need to check my records and make sure that I have everyones correct mailing address / email, to be sure that everyone is getting the newsletter. If you could do that for me, that would be wonderful. Also, if you know anyone who is not receiving my newsletter, and could pass along their information, that would also be extremely helpful.

Feel free to email your information to me at pamela_d_mcadams@yahoo.com, or even a little note with your support check, to let us know. Thank you again!

To tell you about what things have been happening here in Strasbourg, I have to first ask you, as I have asked before, for your prayers. The church, like all churches, goes through ups and downs. Sometimes when there are lots of people who are on fire, sometimes when there are few people with the strength to come. The past couple of months has been the latter of the two.

It has been a discouragement for not only me, but for the others in the congregation to watch one of our members struggle with the idea that the church is imperfect, and as a result of that, leave the the church. We have all tried to encourage me, taking him to the scriptures, showing that a church of imperfect people, as its imperfections. We have asked him to continue to work with us, so that together, we can become more and more like Jesus. Lord willing it will be an effect in his life. Please pray for him, for his faith, and for the church.

There has also be discouragement among some of the other members of the flock. Sophie, who became a christian a year ago, as been working at her joy, which requires she works on Sundays, taking care of four children, and trying to encourage her husband (who is not a believer) as he is unemployed. Being such a young christian, the idea of coming to church every Sunday is still a hard one to grasp, when she sees the physical needs of her family so urgent. Being the only one in the family with an income makes it hard to do anything to jeopardize her work, and the well being of her family. Please pray for her faith, as we are trying to encourage her to put God first, that she will be willing to take a leap of faith.

Sophie's mother, Praline, who is also a young christian, was gone this summer, visiting her family in Madagascar. She returned to Strasbourg a few weeks ago, but very ill. Daniel Frerot and I were able to go and visit her at the beginning of the month, and in doing so, she joined our Bible study with one of our visitors who is a neighbor of hers. Lord willing, each time that we go to the Bible study, she will be present with us. Please pray that her health returns to her, and that she is able to not only rejoin us at worship, but also able to encourage her daughter to be with us again too.

Now on to better news. This month, where it has been low in a lot of ways, has also been very high. We have been blessed with the opportunity to meet with the church on different occasions, including a church singing night, women's Bible Studies, and Sunday supper.

The church singing night was such an encouragement for us all. We gathered at Daniel and Tammy Frerots house, and started singing around 8. We were suppose to finish around 9, but every time we would stop, someone would start singing again, and we were there until 11. Alex and Caleb, the AIM students with us, were able to bring one of their friends, Narsu, from Mongolia. Since then, he has been with us at quite a few of our church gatherings. Please pray that we can have an effect on his life, and Lord willing, he will develop a faith in Christ Jesus.

Our Women's Bible classes were such an encouragement to me, as well, I hope, to all who were able to attend. The first was held on a Wednesday, and it was only Tammy, Ann-Pascal, and myself. We were able to study the name of God which means "Creator", and had a good amount of time to bond as sisters, and share our thoughts about life in Christ.

The second ladies day was held at our apartment (Marlo and I), and we were a total of nine people, including three visiting ladies from the states, one of whom present us our lesson, as well as Laticia, who has been a long time friend of Tammy and myself. Laticia has held a firm belief in atheism, and an unmovable faith in science. But when she heard about our Bible study she asked if she could be a part of it. Tammy reassured here that we were going to be talking about religion, and God, and despite that, she wanted to be apart. She came and listened, and even took a Bible and followed along. Please pray that what was said touched her heart, and that she will be able to let go of her insecurities, and take a leap of faith towards the Lord.
I was able to spend some time with her this past week, we went ice skating. And I think I have finally found out what it is that makes it hard for her to believe. In science, if there is one part of the puzzle that dosn't make since, the entire theory, or at least, part of it, can not be true. In Christianity, there are part that don't make since, and that is where faith comes in. Please pray that this idea is developed in her heart.

Also this month the church was able to gather at our house for dinner after church on Sunday. Marlo, coming from Houston, has just moved to town, and is getting settled and it was a great opportunity for us all to come together and share a meal under the same roof. We had one visiter also who came, Nicola. If you remember me telling you about the computer classes that Daniel and I have been teaching, Nicola is one of the students we had last year, who was part of Candice (Daniel and Tammy's oldest daughter) class. He has come now for three straight weeks, all of his own accord. He even takes the bus by himself. He is a thirteen year old boy who only has a catholic perception of Christianity. Please pray that through the Bible classes, as well as the relationships we are building with him, that he will come to know the King.

Brothers and Sisters, we are continuously desiring your prayers, and that is the greatest encouragement you can be to us. I thank you so much for them, and I know that God is faithful and He answers the prayers of the Saints. Sometimes He answers them in ways we don't except, and I have to trust that what we do here, planting seeds, tiling soil, and so on, if for something, and that it is God Himself who will cause the growth in peoples lives, in their hearts.

God bless you all! Lord willing when I am back in the states I will be able to see you all myself, and give you all my greetings from the church here personally. I look forward to those moments.

With love in Christ,

Pamela D.

The Flowers are starting to bloom in Strasbourg, and so I thought I would share with you some of the pictures I took while waiting for my bus. I am so blessed to live in such a beautiful place. God really has made beautiful things on His earth!
